Quote and source context

How to Read a China Wholesale Product Catalog

Start with one exact product and one current responsible source. A large catalog, low tier price, or “factory direct” phrase is not enough to establish who makes the item or what the final order will cost.

Identify the page you opened

A

Album

Useful for images and codes; may not contain MOQ, terms, or checkout.

L

Supplier listing

May show quantity tiers, variants, company context, and domestic terms.

C

Catalog or price list

Summarizes products but may omit current stock, fees, and responsibility.

S

Service page

Explains that service's ordering, warehouse, QC, or shipping workflow.

Do not take direct or factory claims at face value

A seller, trading company, distributor, workshop, or manufacturer may all use similar wording. Ask what company accepts the order, who issues the invoice, where the goods are produced, which certifications apply, and what evidence can be checked for the specific product.

For regulated, safety-sensitive, branded, or electronic goods, relevant legal, authorization, compliance, and product-safety checks require qualified sources beyond a catalog page.

Read the minimum order and price tiers carefully

MOQ can apply per product, color, size, variant, carton, or total order. A sample price may differ from the bulk tier. Ask whether mixed variants count toward the minimum and whether the quoted tier includes packaging, domestic delivery, tax, inspection, or export preparation.

Use the price-context guide to keep amount, currency, exact variant, quantity basis, source, and date together.

Make the price list answer basic questions

  • What exact product code and specification does the price cover?
  • What currency, unit, MOQ, and quantity tier apply?
  • Which colors, sizes, materials, configurations, and packaging are included?
  • Is the amount ex-works, domestic-delivered, export-prepared, or based on another shipping term?
  • How long is the quote valid and what can change it?
  • Who is the responsible seller or contracting party?

Confirm which order stage the quote covers

Ask where responsibility and cost begin and end: sample preparation, production, domestic pickup, export packing, warehouse receipt, international transport, or final delivery. A low unit quote can describe only the earliest stage.

Write excluded stages beside the amount before comparing suppliers. This exposes missing costs and makes a later shipping or service quote easier to reconcile with the original catalog note.

Keep the original source with every note

Store the album, supplier listing, catalog, quote, QC record, and service page in separate fields. A screenshot without its URL, date, seller, item code, and variant becomes hard to verify later.

Use category-specific questions

Clothing and footwear

  • Material composition and construction
  • Measurement method and tolerances
  • Size range and mixed-size MOQ
  • Color consistency and packaging

Bags and accessories

  • Dimensions, hardware, lining, and closures
  • Protective packaging and carton count
  • Material declarations and finish
  • Sample-to-bulk consistency

Electronics

  • Exact model, ports, and compatibility
  • Included parts and test evidence
  • Battery, plug, labeling, and certifications
  • Warranty and responsible service source

Shipping belongs inside the comparison

Ask for unit weight, packed unit weight, carton dimensions, units per carton, total gross weight, and the shipping basis. International freight, customs, taxes, restricted-goods rules, and delivery responsibility depend on route and destination.
